Stocks regained their momentum in Friday's afternoon session, extending a remarkable rally and capping off a stellar month marked by optimism stemming from a significant inflation reading.

The S&P 500 posted a 0.8% gain, building on its record close and achieving its best February performance in nearly a decade. The benchmark index reached yet another all-time high during the trading day.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average experienced a 0.3% uptick, equivalent to approximately 115 points, while the Nasdaq 100, dominated by tech stocks, surged by 1.2%.

March commenced on a positive note for stocks, responding favorably to PCE data that indicated a continued cooling of inflation.

This eased concerns that the Federal Reserve might find additional reasons to postpone interest rate cuts. However, a closer look reveals signs of "sticky" inflation, posing a challenge to swift adjustments.

In terms of notable stock movements, New York Community Bancorp shares plummeted by 23% following the departure of its CEO, a staggering $2.7 billion quarterly loss, and the discovery of "material weaknesses" in the bank's loan processes.

Conversely, Dell (DELL) shares experienced a 28% surge after exceeding quarterly sales and profit expectations, driven by promising prospects in the realm of artificial intelligence for its servers.

Investors closely monitoring the sector were drawn to developments at OpenAI.

Elon Musk initiated legal action against the Microsoft-backed company and its CEO, Sam Altman, among others, citing a breach of contract.

Additionally, the ChatGPT maker is reportedly poised to announce new board members in March, aiming to resolve the impasse stemming from Altman's abrupt firing last year.
