Dylan Frittelli Secures first DP World Tour title in Six Years

Dylan Frittelli secured his first DP World Tour title in six years, clinching a two-shot victory at the Bahrain Championship.

The South African, who hadn't tasted victory since the 2017 Mauritius Open, finished two strokes ahead of Zander Lombard and Jesper Svensson, concluding the tournament at 13 under par after a final round of 71.

Frittelli, 33, contemplated retirement in 2023 after a challenging period in his career. Reflecting on his triumph, he revealed, "Last year I was in a couple of spots where I thought I was giving the game up, to be honest. It feels awesome to be back on top right now."

The golfer, previously successful on the DP World, PGA, and European Challenge Tours, had contemplated leaving the sport after struggling in 23 out of 27 starts on the PGA Tour last season.

The journey back to victory was arduous for Frittelli, who had left the DP World Tour to pursue opportunities in the United States.

Despite a tough year and doubts about his future in golf, he found resilience at the end of the previous season, thanks to support from his physio, coaches, trainers, and the unwavering encouragement of family and friends.

Starting the final day with a two-shot lead, Frittelli faced challenges as he dropped two shots in the initial 12 holes.

However, he displayed mental toughness and focus by responding with three birdies in the next four holes, ultimately securing his triumph. Reflecting on his performance, Frittelli noted, "I think it shows my mental toughness - it shows the focus I have and those things that you can't really quantify.

I was swinging it great all week, and then all of a sudden couldn't hit it on the planet on the Sunday round, so I'm glad I managed to have the resolve."
