The Western Australia Government will invest $16.7 million to strengthen frontline policing across Western Australia through a major expansion of the Frontline Police Optimisation program.

The initiative is designed to increase the number of officers available for frontline duties by transferring non-operational responsibilities to dedicated support staff, allowing police to spend more time responding to emergencies, engaging with the community, and tackling crime.

The program will also support officers who are unable to return to operational policing due to injury or illness, ensuring their experience and expertise continue to benefit the WA Police Force in alternative roles.

By reallocating duties and resources, the State Government says the initiative will deliver a stronger frontline police presence and improve the force's ability to respond to the needs of Western Australia's rapidly growing population.

The investment forms part of the Cook Government's broader commitment to community safety, including efforts to combat family and domestic violence, reduce youth crime, and strengthen policing services across the State.

Police Minister Reece Whitby said the funding would help ensure officers are deployed where they are needed most.

"The Cook Labor Government is committed to delivering a stronger Police Force to respond faster in our growing community," Mr Whitby said.

"This is about making sure our frontline is as strong as ever - ensuring police officers are where they are needed most to keep Western Australians safe.

"By shifting non-operational tasks to appropriate support roles, we are unlocking thousands of additional policing hours each year.

"This program also ensures we retain the valuable skills and experience of officers who can no longer serve on the frontline, while creating greater opportunities for officers to work actively within the community."
