Fed Square To Host Socceroos World Cup Screenings
The Victorian Government has stepped in to ensure Socceroos World Cup matches will be shown live on the big screen at Fed Square this year.
The move comes after Melbourne Arts Precinct decided not to host public screenings of the matches - a decision the Government has now reversed.
The Government says it will provide the support needed for Fed Square to stage the live broadcasts, while also exploring additional live sites and fan events across Victoria.
The announcement aims to give Victorians more opportunities to come together and enjoy free public events in the city during the tournament.
While acknowledging concerns about anti-social behaviour at large gatherings, the Government says police and security will be present and there will be zero tolerance for misconduct.
The Government says the World Cup is an opportunity to unite communities and celebrate the Socceroos' campaign together.
Victoria is backing the Socceroos as they prepare to take on the world stage.
