Tasmania's agriculture industry has recorded strong growth, with the State's gross farm-gate value rising 15 per cent to $2.83 billion in 2023-24, according to the latest Tasmanian Agri Food ScoreCard.

The result marks an increase from $2.46 billion in 2022-23 and comes despite dry seasonal conditions and ongoing challenges across the sector.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water Gavin Pearce said the figures reflected the resilience of Tasmania's farming communities and the importance of agriculture to the State's economy.

"Our farmers continue to show remarkable resilience in difficult conditions, and this result highlights the strength of Tasmania's agriculture industry," Mr Pearce said.

He said government support during drought conditions in 2023-24 helped producers navigate seasonal pressures while continuing to invest in growth.

The ScoreCard highlighted strong performances across several key industries, with Tasmania's wine sector recording one of the biggest increases. Farm-gate value in wine production rose 48 per cent to $62 million, driven by strong yields, quality vintages and favourable prices.

Dairy remained Tasmania's highest-value land-based agricultural industry, contributing $678 million in farm-gate value, while meat production followed closely at $667 million.

The fruit sector also rebounded strongly, increasing to $401 million, supported by improved production and solid performances in berries and cherries.

Meanwhile, the vegetable industry continued its strong momentum, delivering a farm-gate value of $630 million.

Mr Pearce said the results demonstrated continued progress toward the Government's long-term target of increasing Tasmania's annual farm-gate value to $10 billion by 2050.

TasFarmers CEO Nathan Calman said the outcome reflected the innovation and determination of producers across the State.

"We welcome the report and recognise the collaboration between industry and government in supporting growth across the sector," Mr Calman said.

He said TasFarmers looked forward to the release of the Government's Agricultural Strategy and continuing efforts to strengthen the industry into the future.
