Stockman's Hall of Fame to Receive Major Tourism Upgrade
The Queensland Government has announced a $1 million investment to support a major new tourism development at the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame, aimed at strengthening the future of Outback tourism.
The funding will go towards the Outback Tourism EcoLink Project, which will revitalise the Hall of Fame precinct through upgrades including a renewed lakes area, wetlands restoration, improved visitor facilities and a large undercover interpretive space.
The project is expected to enhance one of Queensland's best-known Outback attractions, encouraging travellers to spend more time in Longreach, explore the wider region and contribute more to the local economy.
The investment is being delivered through the Queensland Government's $80 million Tourism Icons Investment Fund, a key initiative under the Destination 2045 tourism strategy designed to grow world-class visitor experiences across the state.
The announcement follows more than $7.6 million in funding committed earlier this year to support 30 regional tourism experiences throughout Queensland.
Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said tourism plays a vital role in regional communities such as Longreach.
"We know how important tourism is to communities like Longreach, and that's why we are backing quality experiences that will continue to attract visitors for decades to come," Minister Powell said.
He said the EcoLink Project would help inspire travel, encourage longer stays and strengthen confidence across the local tourism sector.
Sean Dillon welcomed the funding, describing it as a major boost for Longreach and the wider Outback.
"This is a significant attraction that provides important visitor support for small businesses and the Longreach community," Mr Dillon said.
Chief Executive Officer Lloyd Mills said the project would transform the precinct through new walking trails, wetlands restoration and an undercover environmental interpretive facility.
"This funding will allow us to deliver a unique combination of tourism and environmental infrastructure, showcasing the beauty and heritage of Longreach, attracting more visitors and creating opportunities for the community," Mr Mills said.
Additional Tourism Icons Investment Fund projects are expected to be announced later this financial year, with applications for the next funding round opening later in 2026.
