The Queensland Government has taken control of the proposed Boral Resources quarry at Reedy Creek on the Gold Coast, following significant community feedback and calls for greater oversight.

More than 2,900 submissions were received regarding the project, prompting the Government to "call in" the application. This move transfers decision-making authority from the Gold Coast City Council to the Deputy Premier, who will now determine the project's outcome within 30 business days.

The decision comes after local Members of Parliament Ros Bates, Laura Gerber and Hermann Vorster raised concerns about the potential impacts of the quarry on the surrounding community.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said the intervention would bring long-awaited clarity to the proposal, which has been under consideration for more than a decade.

"Queenslanders deserve transparency and confidence in planning decisions, as well as certainty about the future of their area," Mr Bleijie said.

He said the Government would carefully assess the proposal's merits and community impacts before making a final determination.

The call-in is intended to resolve years of uncertainty surrounding the project and ensure community views are fully considered as part of the decision-making process.
