Man Charged Over Deer Park Home Invasion and Fawkner Shooting
A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with two separate incidents from 2024 - a violent home invasion in Deer Park and a targeted shooting in Fawkner.
Armed Crime Squad detectives arrested the Coburg man about 11am today.
He faces a series of charges relating to the Fawkner shooting, including intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury, reckless conduct endangering life, possession of a drug of dependence, possession of ammunition, theft of a motor vehicle, and handling stolen goods.
In relation to the Deer Park incident, he has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated home invasion with a firearm, false imprisonment, assault, theft of a motor vehicle, and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
He is due to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.
The Deer Park incident occurred around 5am on Monday, 5 August 2024, when armed offenders allegedly forced their way into a home on Ballarat Road. A male occupant was reportedly assaulted and forcibly removed from the property. He was later released and contacted police.
A 19-year-old Truganina man was previously charged over the same incident in September 2024.
The Fawkner shooting happened just after 9.30am on Wednesday, 3 October 2024, when emergency services were called to Denys Street. Police allege a 49-year-old Lalor man was lured to the address under the guise of providing a quote for a trade job.
Upon his arrival, a man allegedly exited a vehicle, approached the victim, and shot him in the left ankle before fleeing the scene.
Police believe the shooting was targeted.
Investigations remain ongoing.
