Geelong coach blasts SCG turf
The Sydney Cricket Ground's playing surface is again under scrutiny after several players lost their footing during Sydney's 43-point defeat to Geelong on Sunday afternoon.
Cats coach Chris Scott, who was seen inspecting the turf before the match and shaking his head, described the conditions as "not conducive to AFL football," despite his side's dominant performance.
Scott likened the centre wicket area to a cricket pitch in Mumbai, highlighting the stark difference between the softer grass around the ground and the rock-hard strip through the middle.
"The surface looks beautiful - the rye grass is soft - but the contrast is the issue," Scott said post-game. "Outside the centre square it's quite soft, but the middle is rock hard. That's just not conducive to AFL football ... it looked like Mumbai out there.
