CARDIFF, Wales (AP) - Wales fullback Liam Williams announced his retirement from international rugby on Friday after 93 appearances for his country and five tests for the British and Irish Lions.

Williams, who could also play as a winger, scored 21 tries for Wales in a 14-year international career. His final appearance for Wales was against France in last year's Six Nations, a tournament he won twice - including one Grand Slam.

The 34-year-old Williams played on the 2017 and 2021 Lions tours.

"From working as a scaffolder in Port Talbot steelworks, to pulling on that famous red jersey. It's been a journey built on hard work, sacrifice, and the support of so many people along the way," Williams said in a post on Instagram.

Williams plays his club rugby in England for Newcastle Red Bulls.
