A man has died following a glider crash in Queensland's Darling Downs, marking the second fatal aviation incident in the region in less than a fortnight.

Emergency services were called to a rural property near Wainui Soldiers Road in Bowenville around 6:30pm on Wednesday. The crash occurred near the Darling Downs Soaring Club.

The 56-year-old pilot, who was the only person aboard the glider, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit is leading the investigation, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

This latest tragedy follows a fatal light plane crash on July 20 near Oakey, which claimed the lives of experienced pilots Wayne Saunders and Robert Molony.
