Nominations open for 2026 Toowoomba Region Australia Day Awards

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is encouraging residents to recognise local achievers by submitting nominations for the 2026 Toowoomba Region Australia Day Awards.

Chair of the TRC Australia Day Coordinating Working Group, Cr James O'Shea, urged the community to finalise nominations before Friday, November 14, 2025.

"Our region is home to hundreds of dedicated people who give their time, skills and energy to organisations, programs and events that strengthen our communities," Cr O'Shea said.

"These passionate individuals and groups play a vital role in keeping our community vibrant and connected. We all know someone who goes above and beyond to help others - nominating them is a meaningful way to acknowledge their contribution."

Cr O'Shea said lodging nominations by the deadline ensures local Australia Day committees have time to assess entries ahead of the 2026 award presentations.

"It only takes a few minutes to complete an online nomination form, but it's a wonderful way to celebrate those who make a real difference in our towns, city and region," he said.

Nominations can be submitted online at www.tr.qld.gov.au/australiaday.

Award categories include:

• Citizen of the Year (aged over 26)
• Citizen of the Year - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
• Young Citizen of the Year (aged under 26)
• Cultural Award
• Sports Awards - Senior (aged over 18 as of January 26, 2025) and Junior (aged 18 or under as of January 26, 2025)
• Community Group of the Year
• Community Event of the Year
