A 34-year-old man has been charged following an alleged hit and run involving a stolen car in Toowoomba City on Saturday, August 3. Police allege that around 8:10am, a silver Toyota Camry struck a man riding a scooter on Devine Street and failed to stop and offer assistance.
Man Charged After Alleged Hit and Run in Stolen Car in Toowoomba
A 34-year-old man has been charged following an alleged hit and run involving a stolen car in Toowoomba City on Saturday, August 3.
Police allege that around 8:10am, a silver Toyota Camry struck a man riding a scooter on Devine Street and failed to stop and offer assistance. The rider, a 31-year-old Harristown man, sustained non-life-threatening leg injuries and was treated at the scene by emergency services.
The vehicle had allegedly been stolen shortly before the crash, around 8am, when a man reportedly pulled a 78-year-old woman from the Camry while it was stopped outside a church on Neil Street. The Meringandan woman was not physically harmed.
Later that day, around 5:45pm, police located and arrested a 34-year-old Toowoomba man at a South Toowoomba address. He has been charged with multiple offences, including robbery, serious assault, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
He is expected to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Sunday, August 4.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or may have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.
