Community Invited to Provide Feedback on Renaming Section of Prince Henry Drive Park
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is seeking community input on a proposal to rename part of Prince Henry Drive Park in honour of a respected local environmental advocate.
The proposed renaming would formally recognise the late Dr John Swarbrick, a long-time resident of Prince Henry Heights and former Associate Professor at the University of Queensland, Gatton campus. Dr Swarbrick was a renowned expert in weed management and dedicated over four decades to protecting and restoring native bushland throughout the region.
TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio spokesperson, Councillor Tim McMahon, said the initiative acknowledges Dr Swarbrick's significant environmental contributions, particularly in the area under consideration for renaming.
"Dr Swarbrick played a vital role in restoring native vegetation in Toowoomba and was especially active in the bushland area proposed for renaming," Cr McMahon said.
"His pioneering work in removing invasive weeds has laid the groundwork for many of the restoration efforts we continue to build on today. This proposal is a meaningful way to honour his legacy and reflect Council's commitment to preserving our natural environment."
Residents are invited to share their views by completing a short feedback form available on Council's 'Have Your Say' website: https://yoursay.tr.qld.gov.au/prince-henry-drive-park.
Submissions are open until Friday, 15 August 2025. Community feedback will be considered by Council before a final decision is made.
