Two southern Tasmanian men have been charged following a firearms incident in which shots were allegedly fired at homes in Gagebrook and Herdsmans Cove on August 2.

The men, aged 20 and 28, remain in custody and are expected to appear in court today, August 6.

The 28-year-old has been charged with two counts of recklessly discharging a firearm, as well as motor vehicle stealing and unlawful possession of property. The 20-year-old faces similar charges, including one count of recklessly discharging a firearm, motor vehicle stealing, and unlawful possession of property.

The charges relate to two separate incidents that occurred early Saturday morning. It is alleged the men were travelling in a stolen vehicle when they fired multiple shotgun rounds at a home on Briar Crescent in Gagebrook. A short time later, shots were reportedly fired at another residence on Fisher Drive in Herdsmans Cove.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either incident.

As part of the investigation, detectives from Bridgewater CIB carried out targeted searches this week at a property in Lutana and two addresses in Clarendon Vale. Both suspects were arrested without incident, and a quantity of suspected stolen property was also recovered.

Police investigations are ongoing.
