A woman has died after being struck by a hay bale in a workplace accident at the Roma Saleyards early this morning.
Emergency services were called to the site shortly before 7am, where the woman, aged in her 40s, had been critically injured by a falling bale of hay. Despite efforts to treat her for life-threatening injuries, she died a short time later.
Maranoa Regional Council confirmed the incident involved a contractor working for an agent operating within the saleyards.
Police have deemed the death non-suspicious and will prepare a report for the coroner. Officers are also working with Workplace Health and Safety investigators to determine how the accident occurred.
