Queensland Police have issued an arrest warrant for a 36-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of Brisbane woman Velvet Pesu.

Ms Pesu, 46, was found deceased at a property in the Logan suburb of Buccan about 2:30am on Monday, after officers attended the address to conduct a welfare check. Police allege she had been working as a carer for Wael Abdallah Saleem Alfar, who was known to her.

The male resident was not at the property when police arrived. Later that day, NSW Police arrested the man near Kempsey on the state's North Coast following an alleged high-speed pursuit.

Mr Alfar appeared in Coffs Harbour Local Court on Wednesday on unrelated matters. His Legal Aid solicitor, Sean Mabin, told the court his client would plead guilty to one count of failing to stop while being pursued by police, and had not yet entered a plea on a charge of driving while his licence was suspended.

He was remanded in custody, with the matter adjourned for mention on February 25.

Queensland Police confirmed an arrest warrant has been issued for murder in relation to Ms Pesu's death and said extradition proceedings would be pursued once the NSW matters are finalised.
