Police have charged two people with serious drug offences following the execution of a search warrant at a residential address in Airlie Beach, as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the supply of illicit substances across the Whitsundays.

The operation took place at about 8am on Sunday, 16 February, when officers from the Whitsundays Tactical Crime Squad, supported by specialist Dog Squad officers, attended a property on Hermitage Drive. The warrant was executed after intelligence-led investigations into suspected drug activity in the area.

During the search, police will allege they located approximately nine ounces of cocaine, with an estimated street value exceeding $100,000. Officers also allegedly uncovered a quantity of cannabis, drug-related utensils, and cash believed to be linked to unlawful drug activity.

As a result of the search, a 25-year-old man from the Sunshine Coast has been charged with multiple offences, including two counts of possessing dangerous drugs-namely cocaine and cannabis-as well as one count each of trafficking in dangerous drugs, possessing tainted property, and possessing utensils used in connection with drug offences.

A 22-year-old woman from Brisbane has also been charged in relation to the same incident. Her charges include two counts of possessing dangerous drugs (cocaine and cannabis), one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs, one count of possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, and one count of possessing utensils.

Both accused are scheduled to reappear before the Proserpine Magistrates Court next month, where the matters will continue through the legal process.

Mackay Whitsundays Support Services Group Inspector Shelley Moore said the operation highlighted police commitment to protecting the community from the harms caused by dangerous drugs.

"There is no place for dangerous drugs in our community," Inspector Moore said. "Our officers will continue to disrupt the unlawful supply of dangerous drugs from our streets."

She added that Queensland Police maintain a zero-tolerance approach to illicit substances and remain focused on holding those involved in drug trafficking and possession to account.

The investigation forms part of broader efforts across the region to target organised drug distribution networks and reduce the impact of illegal drugs on local communities.
