Body Found in Search for Missing Woman in Newcastle
Police have discovered a body during the search for a 68-year-old woman who had been missing from the Newcastle area since May.
The woman was last seen in early May 2025. After failing to make contact with her, family and friends raised the alarm, and officers from Newcastle City Police District began an investigation on Friday, 9 May.
Search operations were carried out in May and July across several suburbs, including Martins Creek, Birmingham Gardens, and Jesmond, involving both NSW Police and the State Emergency Service (SES). Despite extensive efforts, no trace of the woman was found at the time.
At approximately 9am today (Thursday, 7 August), police located the body of a woman at a property in Birmingham Gardens.
While formal identification is yet to take place, authorities believe the body is that of the missing woman.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner to determine the cause of death.
