McLaren Pair Norris and Piastri Disqualified from Las Vegas Grand Prix
McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been stripped of their results at the Las Vegas Grand Prix after Formula 1 officials ruled their cars breached technical regulations.
F1 confirmed on Sunday morning that both drivers were disqualified when post-race inspections found their MCL39s failed to meet minimum skid block thickness requirements. Norris had originally crossed the line in second place behind Max Verstappen, while Piastri had finished fourth.
The pair entered the weekend leading the championship standings in first and second respectively, with Norris holding a 24-point advantage over his teammate. Their strong finishes in Las Vegas initially looked set to maintain that gap-until the ruling overturned their results.
According to F1's statement, technical delegates discovered excessive wear on the rearmost skid plates of both McLaren cars, which measured below the mandated 9mm minimum specified in Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations. The measurements were rechecked in the presence of the stewards and McLaren representatives, confirming the initial findings.
