Police have launched an investigation after the bodies of a man and a woman were discovered at a home in Rockhampton, in central Queensland, following a welfare check late Tuesday evening.

Emergency services were called to a property on Lion Creek Road in the suburb of Wandal shortly after 8pm, after concerns were raised for the occupants' wellbeing. When officers arrived at the address, they located the bodies of a 76-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man inside the home.

A crime scene was immediately declared, and specialist investigators were deployed to the property as part of the initial response. At this stage, police have confirmed that the cause of death for both individuals remains undetermined, with no further details released publicly about the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Queensland Police say the investigation is in its early stages, with officers working to establish a timeline of events and determine how the two people died. This process typically involves forensic examinations at the scene, post-mortem investigations, and a review of any relevant evidence, including CCTV footage, phone records, and recent movements of the deceased.

Authorities have also begun speaking with neighbours and other potential witnesses in the area as part of routine inquiries. Police have emphasised that, at this point, no assumptions should be made while investigators work to confirm the facts.

The incident has caused concern within the local community, particularly given the residential nature of the street and the late-evening police activity. Residents in the area reported seeing police vehicles and forensic personnel at the property overnight as investigations continued.

Police have urged anyone who may have information relevant to the case, no matter how minor it may seem, to contact investigators. Members of the public are also being reminded not to speculate about the incident while inquiries remain ongoing.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and more information becomes available.
