Two teenage girls have been seriously injured following a hit-and-run crash in Coolangatta on Friday evening.
Police say the incident occurred just after 7pm on January 10, when a white Mitsubishi Express van travelling west along Marine Parade collided with a DiroDi Rover Pro electric bike heading east in the designated bicycle lane.
The driver of the van allegedly failed to stop and render assistance, continuing along Marine Parade before crossing the Queensland border into New South Wales.
The e-bike rider and her passenger - both 15-year-old girls - were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.
A short time later, NSW Police arrested a 40-year-old man from Urangan in Tweed Heads in connection with unrelated matters.
Queensland Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
