Police have seized a significant quantity of drugs, firearms and cash following a search of a Broadbeach unit on Monday.mDetectives from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad, along with Taskforce Maxima, executed a search warrant where they allegedly located a large amount of methylamphetamine, five handguns and ammunition.
Drugs and weapons seized in Broadbeach raid
Police have seized a significant quantity of drugs, firearms and cash following a search of a Broadbeach unit on Monday.
Detectives from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad, along with Taskforce Maxima, executed a search warrant at a Surf Parade address where they allegedly located a large amount of methylamphetamine, five handguns and ammunition.
Officers also seized a taser baton, quantities of illegal and prescription drugs including MDMA tablets and alprazolam, four mobile phones and $5,750 in cash.
A 2016 Mercedes GLC43 was also located at the address and seized. Police will allege the vehicle was stolen and fitted with false number plates.
A 43-year-old Broadbeach man has been charged with multiple offences, including two counts each of unlawful possession of Category D, H and R weapons and possessing dangerous drugs (MDMA and alprazolam).
He was also charged with possessing dangerous drugs exceeding a Schedule 4 amount, possessing relevant substances or items, possessing items for use in the commission of a crime, possessing proceeds of an offence under the Drugs Misuse Act, and authority required to possess explosives.
The man is expected to appear before the Southport Magistrates Court today.
A 20-year-old man who was also present during the search was charged with one count of possessing utensils used in the smoking of dangerous drugs.
Investigations remain ongoing.
