In a historic tribute, the Government of India has released a commemorative postage stamp in honour of Shri Purshottamdas H. Purohit - a renowned businessman and social worker originally from Rajasthan who made a significant impact in Maharashtra. This marks the first time a member of the Rajpurohit Brahmin community has been featured on a national postage stamp.

The stamp was officially unveiled in Mumbai by His Excellency Haribhau Bagde, Governor of Rajasthan, in the presence of several dignitaries including Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar, Rajya Sabha MP, Dr. Bhagwat Karad, and Navi Mumbai Postmaster General Suchita Joshi.

The event also included the soft launch of a book cover titled “Adarsh Manav: Purshottamdas Purohit”, authored by his son Jagadish P. Purohit, which chronicles the life and legacy of the late Purshottamdas H. Purohit.

Family members and trustees of the P.H. Purohit (Rawatsingh) Charitable Trust - including Vinod Purohit, Ghanshyam Purohit, Jagadish Purohit, Bharat Purohit, Manish Purohit, Sanam Purohit, Sangramsingh Purohit, and Ashutosh Purohit - were present at the ceremony, paying tribute to Purohit’s lifelong dedication to public service.

Governor Bagde praised Purohit as a true karmayogi - a selfless worker - who achieved great success in business while remaining deeply committed to the social and cultural development of his community. Despite his active role in India's freedom struggle, the Governor noted, Purohit never sought recognition for his contributions.

Speaker Rahul Narwekar likened Purohit to a “Pole Star” whose life will continue to inspire generations. He highlighted how individuals like him form the backbone of society and leave a lasting legacy.

Former Minister Raj K. Purohit and senior Congress leader also addressed the gathering, reflecting on the life, values, and immense contributions of Shri Purohit.

Purohit's sons, Vinod and Jagdish, expressed their commitment to carrying forward their father’s legacy of community service. Ghanshyam Purohit extended heartfelt thanks to India Post for the honour. Granddaughter Heena Jagdish Purohit and RJ Rajesh Purohit hosted the event, while great-grandson Dev Sanam Purohit shared words of gratitude.

The event commenced with the National Anthem and the Maharashtra State Anthem “Garja Maharashtra Majha”, followed by prayers to Lord Ganesha, Goddess Saraswati, and the ancestors, recited by Pt. Mahesh Paithne.
