CHICAGO (AP) - Gunnar Henderson hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in Baltimore's three-run eighth inning, and the Orioles beat the Chicago White Sox 4-2 on Tuesday for their eighth straight victory over the South Siders.

Henderson, Tyler O'Neill and Blaze Alexander each had two hits for Baltimore, which left 14 runners on base. Yennier Cano (1-1) got three outs for the win on a chilly afternoon, and Ryan Helsley handled the ninth for his fourth save.

Alexander started the eighth-inning rally with a one-out double off Jordan Hicks (0-1). Ward followed with another double, tying it at 2.

Chase Meidroth had two hits for Chicago, which dropped to 3-2 on a six-game homestand. Shane Smith struck out eight and walked five in 3 2/3 scoreless innings in his third start of the year.

GUARDIANS 2, ROYALS 1

CLEVELAND (AP) - Brayan Rocchio's single with one out in the ninth inning drove in CJ Kayfus to give Cleveland a victory over Kansas City.

Kayfus singled off John Schreiber (0-1) and advanced to second when Bo Naylor walked. Rocchio's single just eluded Kansas City second baseman Jonathan India to go into right field. Kayfus slid into home and beat the throw of right fielder Lane Thomas for the winning run.

Cleveland second baseman Juan Brito went 2 for 4 in his major-league debut and Steven Kwan had an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Kansas City rookie Carter Jensen homered for the second straight game for the Royals' only hit. Jensen connected on a cutter in the second inning off Cleveland starter Gavin Williams and drove it over the wall in right-center for his third home run of the season.

METS 4, DIAMONDBACKS 3, 10 INNINGS

NEW YORK (AP) - Pinch-hitter Ronny Mauricio returned to the majors by lining a game-winning single in the 10th inning that gave New York a victory over Arizona.

New York (7-4) won its fourth straight game and improved to 2-2 in extra innings already this season.

Mauricio, recalled Monday from Triple-A Syracuse when slugger Juan Soto was placed on the injured list, laced an 0-2 pitch from Paul Sewald (0-2) over the head of right fielder Corbin Carroll to drive in automatic runner Francisco Lindor from third base with one out.

Luke Weaver (1-0) pitched a perfect 10th for the Mets, who played their third straight extra-inning game at home. New York beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2 in 11 innings on March 28 and lost 4-3 in 10 innings the next day.

PIRATES 7, PADRES 1

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes put together his second straight solid start, keeping San Diego hitless until the sixth inning of Pittsburgh's win over San Diego.

Skenes (2-1), who was rocked during an opening day loss to the New York Mets, struck out six and walked two in 6 1/3 innings while lowering his ERA to 5.54. The Padres' first of two hits against the 23-year-old was a clean single to left by Fernando Tatis Jr. with one out in the sixth.

Xander Bogaerts homered off Skenes - the first round-tripper given up by a Pittsburgh starter this season - with one out in the seventh. Skenes exited to a loud ovation from the announced crowd of 9,061 on a chilly night as the Pirates won for the sixth time in seven games.

Oneil Cruz hit a two-run double off Nick Pivetta (1-2) in the fifth and Nick Gonzales added a two-run single to start a five-run eighth for the Pirates. Skenes and three relievers combined on a three-hitter.

RED SOX 3, BREWERS 2

BOSTON (AP) - Trevor Story lined a two-run double in the sixth as Boston overcame 11 strikeouts to beat Milwaukee and end a three-game skid.

Garrett Crochet struck out seven for the Red Sox, who won for just the third time in 11 games this season and avoided a 2-9 start, which has happened only four times in franchise history, most recently in 2011.

Crochet (2-1) outlasted Milwaukee right-hander Jacob Misiorowski, who struck out 10 before running into trouble in the sixth.

CUBS 9, RAYS 2

ST. PETERSBURGH, Fla. (AP) - Alex Bregman broke out of an 0-for13 slump with three hits and Javier Assad worked 5 2/3 shutout innings to lead Chicago to a win over Tampa Bay.

The Cubs (5-6) banged out a season-best 16 hits and snapped a two-game skid. The Rays had their three-game winning streak halted in front of an announced crowd of 21,377 in the second game of their return to Tropicana Field.

Both teams had some rotation chaos.

The Rays (5-6) were without scheduled starter Drew Rasmussen, whose wife went into labor with the couple's second child hours before first pitch. Mason Englert (0-1) got the start and allowed four runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.

The Cubs announced before the game that ace Cade Horton would miss the rest of the season after an MRI revealed UCL damage in his right elbow.

Chicago's Pete Crow-Armstrong had his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the seventh inning, among his three hits. Moises Ballesteros' two-run homer in the ninth was his first of the season.

DODGERS 4, BLUE JAYS 1

TORONTO (AP) - Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six-plus innings, Shohei Ohtani extended his career-best on-base streak to 42 games and Los Angeles pushed their winning streak to five, beating Toronto.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Thomas Saggese hit a go-ahead double in the 10th inning, and St. Louis rallied for a win over Washington.

Nathan Church and Jordan Walker homered for St. Louis. The Cardinals scored five runs against the Nationals' scuffling bullpen, which entered the day ranked 28th in the majors with a 6.34 ERA.

James Wood homered for a third consecutive game for the first time in his career for Washington, which has dropped six of seven.

YANKEES 5, ATHLETICS 3

NEW YORK (AP) - Amed Rosario homered twice, including a go-ahead, three-run drive in the eighth inning that rallied New York over the Athletics.

New York, which matched its best start at 8-2, trailed 3-1 entering the eighth and had been 0 for 12 with runners on base before its comeback. The Yankees cut the deficit on Giancarlo Stanton's RBI single past shortstop Jacob Wilson, who took a misstep to his left.

Rosario homered to left on an 0-1 splitter from former Yankee Mark Leiter Jr. (0-1) for his third multi-homer game and first since Aug. 31, 2021, for Cleveland.

Rosario also homered in the second on a 43-degree night in the Bronx.

Fernando Cruz (1-0) struck out Lawrence Butler with two on to end the eighth and David Bednar pitched a perfect ninth for his fifth save.

RANGERS 3, MARINERS 2

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Kyle Higashioka gave Texas the lead with a two-run homer, Nathan Eovaldi recorded his 1,500th career strikeout during six solid innings and the Rangers beat Seattle.

Higashioka's liner just over the wall in left field in the fifth put the Rangers in front 3-2 against George Kirby, who lost to Texas for the first time in 11 career starts. The right-hander won eight of those first 10.

Brendan Donovan homered to right on the first pitch of the game in Eovaldi's 300th career start, but the 36-year-old right-hander settled in and struck out seven, including Josh Naylor for his 1,500th to end the first inning. Eovaldi (1-2) allowed six hits and two runs.

Alcantara had a two-hit shutout entering the ninth and had not allowed a run in 24 innings this season. Miami backed him with run-scoring groundouts by Otto Lopez and Heriberto Hernández in the second against Andrew Abbott.
