McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been stripped of their results at the Las Vegas Grand Prix after Formula 1 officials ruled their cars breached technical regulations.

F1 confirmed on Sunday morning that both drivers were disqualified when post-race inspections found their MCL39s failed to meet minimum skid block thickness requirements. Norris had originally crossed the line in second place behind Max Verstappen, while Piastri had finished fourth.

The pair entered the weekend leading the championship standings in first and second respectively, with Norris holding a 24-point advantage over his teammate. Their strong finishes in Las Vegas initially looked set to maintain that gap-until the ruling overturned their results.

According to F1's statement, technical delegates discovered excessive wear on the rearmost skid plates of both McLaren cars, which measured below the mandated 9mm minimum specified in Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations. The measurements were rechecked in the presence of the stewards and McLaren representatives, confirming the initial findings.

"The rearmost skid wear on both McLaren MCL39 machines was found to be below the minimum 9mm thickness," the statement read. "The matter was referred to the stewards, who subsequently disqualified both cars from the official result."

Stewards noted that the team did not appear to have intentionally attempted to bypass the regulations, describing the breach as unintentional.

With Norris and Piastri removed from the results, Verstappen gains critical ground in the championship fight-now drawing level with Piastri for second overall and closing in on the top of the standings.
