Tom Silvagni has filed an application for leave to appeal his rape convictions, with documents lodged in Victoria's Court of Appeal.

The 23-year-old was sentenced in December to six years and two months' jail after being convicted of two counts of rape, with a non-parole period of three years and three months.

A Supreme Court of Victoria spokesperson confirmed the appeal application was filed on Wednesday.

At trial, the court heard Silvagni raped a woman in January 2024 after entering her darkened bedroom and pretending to be her boyfriend. Prosecutors said he later altered an Uber receipt in an attempt to cast doubt on his involvement.

Silvagni's identity was initially suppressed before the order was lifted. His parents are AFL great Stephen Silvagni and television personality Jo Silvagni.

In a victim impact statement, the woman told the court the offence continues to affect her every day.
