England has ended a near 15-year wait for success at the MCG, securing a memorable victory in the fourth Test after completing a tense run chase on day two.

After skittling Australia for 132 in their second innings, England overhauled the target of 175 with four wickets to spare. Vice-captain Harry Brook struck the winning runs, triggering jubilant celebrations among the Barmy Army, who have endured a long drought in Australia since the New Year's Test of 2011.

Youngster Jacob Bethell led the chase with a fluent 40, justifying England's decision to back him ahead of Ollie Pope.

Fast bowler Josh Tongue was named Player of the Match after claiming seven wickets across the two innings, including an impressive five-wicket haul on day one.

"It's what dreams are made of," Tongue said. "To take a five-for and get my name on the honours board here is pretty special.

"The Barmy Army have been unbelievable - it's an amazing feeling to play in front of them. I was in a tough place with my body and even close to retiring, so to be back playing for England makes it even more rewarding."
