A bushfire at Dolphin Sands on Tasmania's east coast has destroyed 19 homes and damaged dozens more, the Tasmania Fire Service has confirmed. In total, approximately 195 assets-including garages, outhouses, vehicles, and water tanks-have been affected.

Tasmania Fire Services Emergency Services Commissioner Jeremy Smith said authorities had contacted most property owners, though a few remain unidentified as impact assessments continue.

The blaze has now been contained, but forecasters warn more severe weather is on the way. Strong winds, potentially reaching 100 kilometres per hour, are expected from Monday, bringing high fire danger. "Even after the winds ease on Tuesday, some high fire danger is likely due to dry conditions," said Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Luke Johnston.

Residents of Dolphin Sands are now confronting the aftermath, unsure of the fate of their properties amid another challenging fire season. The peninsula has experienced at least eight bushfires in the past 15 years.
