France captain Kylian Mbappe is expected to miss around two weeks after suffering a left knee injury during the national team's 1-0 victory over Turkiye.

Mbappe's club, Real Madrid, confirmed that medical tests showed he had suffered a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee.

The forward scored France's only goal in Friday's Nations League match at Kocaeli Stadium in Izmit, taking his international tally to 67 goals. However, his goal was quickly overshadowed by the injury.

Mbappe appeared to be in pain as teammates gathered around him to celebrate. After receiving treatment, he attempted to continue playing but was eventually forced to leave the field after falling to the ground and examining the outside of his left knee.

He was replaced by Desire Doue.

France coach Zinedine Zidane said the team would not take any unnecessary risks with its captain and confirmed that Mbappe would not feature in France's three Nations League matches over the following 10 days.

France are scheduled to travel to Belgium before hosting Italy and Belgium at the Stade de France on October 2 and October 5.

The timing of Mbappe's recovery means his availability for Real Madrid's first match after the international break is uncertain. Madrid are due to face Villarreal on October 10, which could come too soon for the France captain.

However, reports in Spain indicate that Mbappe is expected to have recovered in time for Real Madrid's highly anticipated Clasico against Barcelona on October 25.

The injury will nevertheless be monitored closely by both Real Madrid and France as Mbappe continues his recovery.
