Hollywood star Hugh Jackman has revealed he is considering becoming a part-owner of English football club Norwich City, potentially setting up a Hollywood rivalry with his friend Ryan Reynolds.

Jackman, best known for playing Wolverine in the X-Men film franchise, has been a longtime supporter of Norwich because his mother was born in the east England city.

Speaking to British broadcaster TalkSport while promoting his new film The Death of Robin Hood, Jackman was asked whether he would consider buying a stake in the Championship club.

"I'm very, very interested in talking about it right now," Jackman said.

He described the revelation as an exclusive, adding that he was interested in following Reynolds into English football ownership.

Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney bought Wrexham in 2021 and have transformed the Welsh club into a global sporting and entertainment phenomenon.

Wrexham and Norwich now compete in the Championship, England's second tier, creating the possibility of a Hollywood-backed rivalry should Jackman acquire a stake in the Canaries.

Jackman was quick to distinguish his allegiance from Reynolds' ownership of Wrexham.

"Good on Ryan. You do your thing. I'm all about the Canaries," he said, referring to Norwich's traditional nickname.

Norwich are majority-owned by Mark Attanasio, the American businessman and principal owner of Major League Baseball's Milwaukee Brewers.

The club has a long history in English football and last competed in the Premier League four years ago. One of Norwich's most memorable achievements came in 1993, when they eliminated German giants Bayern Munich from the UEFA Cup.

Both Norwich and Wrexham are expected to challenge for promotion to the Premier League this season, adding further intrigue to the prospect of Jackman and Reynolds becoming rival football investors.

Jackman also praised Norwich's recent revival under Belgian manager Philippe Clement, who took charge in November.

"I think it's an exciting team and it's going to be an exciting year," Jackman said.
