Barcelona made it two wins from two in La Liga as goals from Raphinha and Fermin Lopez secured a 2-0 victory over Athletic Club at Camp Nou.

Raphinha opened the scoring in the 37th minute before Fermin added a second eight minutes from full time, ensuring Hansi Flick's side began their home campaign with another convincing result.

Barcelona dominated possession and created most of the game's opportunities, although Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon produced several impressive saves to keep his side within reach of an equaliser.

Flick made three changes to the side that began the season with a 5-0 victory at Elche. Anthony Gordon was handed his full debut, while Pau Cubarsi and Pedri returned to the starting XI. Newly signed Rodri began the match among the substitutes.

Barcelona quickly established control and almost took the lead in the 18th minute when Simon produced an excellent one-handed save to keep out Lamine Yamal's curling effort from the edge of the penalty area.

Six minutes later, Raphinha went close when he headed against the post from a cross by academy graduate Xavi Espart.

Pedri appeared to have put Barcelona ahead in the 29th minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside during the build-up.

The breakthrough finally arrived eight minutes later. Pedri split the Athletic defence with a precise through ball, allowing Raphinha to race through, round Simon and finish into an empty net.

The Brazilian forward, operating again as a central striker, has now scored three goals in Barcelona's opening two league games as the club continues to search for a specialist No. 9 before the transfer window closes.

Simon denied Barcelona a second goal before halftime with another important close-range stop against Yamal.

Athletic players also appealed for a red card following a challenge involving Raphinha and Aymeric Laporte, but neither the referee nor VAR took further action.

Barcelona continued to dictate proceedings after the interval. Yamal struck the crossbar with a powerful effort from outside the box in the 53rd minute, while Athletic struggled to create sustained pressure.

Rodri was introduced in the 62nd minute, making his Barcelona debut after joining the Catalan club from Manchester City following Spain's World Cup triumph in North America.

Athletic finally threatened an equaliser in the 75th minute when Oihan Sancet's long-range effort struck the post.

Barcelona put the result beyond doubt eight minutes later. Laporte failed to properly clear Karim Adeyemi's low cross, allowing Fermin to collect the loose ball inside the area and fire past Simon.

The victory leaves Barcelona with six points from two matches, level with Real Madrid, Real Betis and Sevilla at the top of the standings. Athletic Club and Real Sociedad are still searching for their first points of the campaign.
