Yamal and Fermin inspire Barcelona to crushing win over Valencia
Barcelona maintained their flawless start to the La Liga season with a commanding 5-0 victory away to Valencia on Sunday, with Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez producing standout performances.
Yamal scored twice, while Fermin contributed a goal and two assists as the defending champions dominated from the opening whistle. Raphinha and Pedri were also on the scoresheet as Barcelona strengthened their position at the top of the table.
The result leaves Barcelona on 12 points from four matches, three points clear of second-placed Real Madrid. Valencia, meanwhile, remain at the foot of the standings with just one point and were thoroughly outplayed throughout the contest.
Barcelona needed only six minutes to break the deadlock. Fermin picked out Yamal inside the penalty area, and the young forward showed excellent composure to lift his finish over Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski from a difficult angle.
The visitors doubled their advantage in the 22nd minute. Anthony Gordon created the opening for Fermin, who unleashed a powerful strike from around 18 yards to give Valencia an even bigger challenge.
Fermin was involved again shortly after the interval when he collected a pass from Yamal before breaking into the area. His low delivery across the six-yard box found Raphinha at the far post, allowing the Brazilian to tap home Barcelona's third goal in the 50th minute.
The combination between Fermin and Raphinha continued to cause problems for Valencia. Fermin twice created further opportunities for the winger, but Raphinha was unable to convert either chance, with one effort being stopped by Dimitrievski.
Barcelona continued to create opportunities almost at will, with Rodri going particularly close when his header struck the crossbar.
Pedri eventually added a fourth in the 79th minute, calmly finishing to underline Barcelona's complete control.
There was also a debut for Gabriel Jesus, who came off the bench following his move from Arsenal.
Barcelona were not finished, however, and Yamal completed the rout late in the game by sweeping home from close range for his second goal of the afternoon.
The emphatic victory takes Barcelona's league tally to 17 goals from their opening four matches, highlighting the attacking power that has helped them establish an early lead in the title race.
