Berkshire Hathaway significantly increased its investment in Alphabet during the second quarter, lifting the Google and YouTube parent company to its third-largest publicly traded stock holding.

The investment firm disclosed on Friday that it held nearly 106 million Alphabet shares valued at approximately $37.8 billion as of June 30. That represented an increase of about 83% from the 57.8 million shares Berkshire owned at the end of the first quarter.

The expanded position was revealed in a regulatory filing detailing Berkshire's U.S.-listed equity investments at the end of June. The portfolio had a total value of about $323.8 billion.

The move highlights Berkshire's growing confidence in Alphabet and represents one of its most significant recent investments in the technology sector. The company had only begun building its Alphabet position in late 2025, but rapidly increased its holdings during the first half of 2026.

Berkshire's broader investment activity also accelerated during the second quarter, with the company becoming a net buyer of stocks after a prolonged period of selling. It invested nearly $20 billion more in equities than it sold during the quarter, while also spending billions of dollars repurchasing its own shares.

The Alphabet purchase is part of a broader shift in Berkshire's capital allocation strategy under CEO Greg Abel, who succeeded Warren Buffett as chief executive at the start of 2026. The company has begun deploying some of its enormous cash reserves into major investments after years of maintaining a highly conservative position.

Alphabet has been investing heavily in artificial intelligence infrastructure, with Berkshire committing billions of dollars to the company as it seeks to expand its AI capabilities.

Berkshire's enlarged Alphabet position now ranks behind only its largest stock investments, underscoring the growing importance of the technology company within the conglomerate's portfolio.
