Clinical England Complete Series Victory Over Pakistan

England produced another commanding performance to sweep aside Pakistan and secure a Test series victory with a 194-run win at Lord's.

The hosts wrapped up the second Test on the fourth day after dismissing Pakistan for 194, despite a determined 97 from Saud Shakeel that briefly delayed England's march to victory.

Ollie Robinson was once again at the heart of England's success, continuing his remarkable return to international cricket with figures of 4-24 in the second innings. His match haul of 8-35 underlined his influence throughout the contest.

Robinson made full use of the movement available from the Lord's surface, repeatedly troubling Pakistan's batters as England brought the match to a decisive conclusion. The victory followed their innings triumph in the opening Test at Headingley last week, highlighting the gulf between the two sides during the series.

The result also gives Joe Root a winning start to his second spell as England captain. Root has now overseen victories in his first two Tests back in the role, with the series secured with one match still to play.

It is England's first Test series triumph since 2024.

Pakistan entered the final innings needing a Lord's record 389 runs for victory, although their more realistic objective was to survive long enough to force a fifth day. Their highest score of the series before the final innings had been only 171.

Those hopes quickly faded when Robinson struck twice in his third over to leave Pakistan struggling at 14-3. With less than three full days of cricket played because of weather interruptions, it soon became clear that England were on course to finish the match inside four days.

Shakeel resisted strongly and appeared capable of extending Pakistan's resistance, but Robinson returned to dismiss Shan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan in successive overs.

Shakeel's innings finally ended when he attempted to attack Josh Tongue and holed out, removing the last significant obstacle between England and victory.

Pakistan were subsequently bowled out for 194, completing another comprehensive defeat and handing England an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-Test series.

The final Test will begin at Edgbaston on Wednesday, September 9, with England looking to complete a clean sweep.
